Your First Visit to Finesse Dental Care

At your first visit you will be welcomed by our friendly staff.

You will be given a clinipad (small hand held computer device) where we will ask for your address, date of birth, relevant medical history, any medications you might be taking or allergies that you are aware of and your dental history. In case you find the clinipad daunting our team will be at hand to help you. If you prefer pen and paper to fill in your details then we can provide you with paper form.

The dentist will carry out a complete oral and facial examination examination and discuss any treatment you may need or any dental concerns you may have.

Here are just a few of the things that your dentist will undertake while you’re in the chair:

  • Checks your jaw joints
  • Looks at your occlusion (bite)
  • Assesses you for infections, including your tongue and gums
  • Checks you for oral cancer by feeling for lumps in the jaw, neck and throat
  • Records measurements of your gums to assess for gum disease
  • Examines your teeth for caries (tooth decay)
  • Offers oral health advice, tailored to you

If you’ve had dental x-rays in the last six months, please bring them to your first appointment or email them to us. If you don’t have them, get ready to bite down on the x-ray sensor.

Teeth cleaning may be performed during your first visit, or might be scheduled for a follow-up visit depending on the condition of your teeth and gums.

At the end of your first visit your treatment plan, options, and the priorities will be discussed with you.
Patients under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian.

Your first appointment will take about 30 minutes. Kindly arrive about 10 minutes early so that you have enough time to fill out the forms.
