Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a very effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface.

Teeth can be stained on the surface by smoking, calculus or tartar, certain types of mouthwashes, food and drinks such as tea, coffee, red wine. Sometimes staining can be caused by certain antibiotics or by tiny cracks in the teeth which take up stains.

The ‘active ingredient' in the whitening product is hydrogen peroxide (daytime use) or carbamide peroxide (night time use). As the active ingredient is broken down, oxygen gets into the enamel on the teeth and the tooth colour is made lighter.

The total treatment can usually be done within three to four weeks.

Procedure:

• We examine the teeth for any caries, chips and check for gum health.
• We record the shade and take few photos of the teeth.
• We will take impressions of your teeth and send to a dental laboratory to create a custom made whitening tray for you. This will take about 5-7 days.
• You can then choose between a daytime whitening gel  which is worn for 60-90 minutes or a night time one which is worn in bed overnight.
• Results are basically identical regardless of whichever option you take, it depends on what will best suit your lifestyle.
• The treatment is fairly straightforward. You apply a very small amount of gel to you tray using the syringes we have provided. Wear your tray as instructed, take it out and rinse when done. You will repeat this for roughly 2 weeks or slightly longer in some cases.
